City Directories and History: 1961 – Shaw’s Clothing Store, 1981 – Western Auto Store
This structure appears as a brick commercial duplex on the 1912 Sanborn Maps of Winnsboro. Listed as #209, next to #207, these buildings housed a dry goods store.
This address, next to the newspaper offices became Western Auto’s new home after the company had to relocate. Take notice of its location on the attached 1986 Commercial map of downtown Winnsboro, SC. It was from underneath this building that the Curlee family removed the old hearse which was given to Pope Funeral Home.
Mr. and Mrs. Curlee sold the business to John Nicholson and John Stewart who continued operating at the new location
