City Directories and History: In 1912 this duplex commercial structure housed both a drug store and insurance office. Dr. Phillip Wilkins
In the current office of Dr. Phillip Wilkins at 124 was the drug store and later soda fountain of Dr. Riley McMaster, Sr. At his death was formed the John H. McMaster firm and that business became a third generation family establishment run by Dr. Riley McMaster, Jr. Additionally, the space between Winnsboro Furniture Co. and 124 was run as Winnsboro Chevrolet by Mr. Ernest Crawford from the late 1920’s until it was relocated to its present location now Wilson Chevrolet at 798 U. S. Highway 321 North. After Mr. Crawford and his son-in law Forest M. Hughes moved their business in the mid 1950’s, J. Barkley Doty, Jr. located his machinery business at the location, continuing three generations of his family’s downtown businesses. [Information provided by J.M. Lyles]
