City Directories and History: In the heart of the Monticello community once stood a large two story frame ante-bellum home which burned in the early 20th century (1933) and was replaced by this charming stone house, known locally as the McMeekin home.
The original home was owned by Capt. Hayne McMeekin (1832-1918), who raised his family here.
It is currently owned in 2013, by Thomas McMeekin. He is the third generation of the family to reside here. The home however was originally constructed by his great uncle, Mr. Gus McMeekin (1866-1938) who added an unusual corner stone to the dwelling which states it was constructed in 1935. The home originally had a tile roof but was replace in circa 2011 by the current metal roof. Thomas Leroy McMeekin (May 8, 1900 – Nov. 11, 1979), the father of the current owner, and the grandson of Capt. Hayne McMeekin purchased the house and retired here.
The home is surrounded by beautiful planting, bulbs, and large live oak trees which help shade the dwelling.
