City Directories and History: “The first picture I am including was taken in 1924 during a Goforth family reunion. The second one is one I took several years ago. I was told it was built around 1890. It was built by my great grandfather Francis (Franklin) Asbury Goforth. He was born in 1847; died November 18, 1935 and is buried at Mesopotamia Methodist Church Cemetery in Cherokee County. He lived at Kings Mountain, N.C. until he was married, then moved to Sunnyside in Cherokee County. (Probably a little prior to 1873 at this point is my guess.) He and his brother, Preston, owned several hundred acres of land at Kings Mountain Park. I have been told the house was built with lumber that came from that area. Part of the Kings Mountain property had been passed down from their ggg-grandfather -Preston Goforth – that killed and was killed by his brother at the battle in 1780.”
