“What makes Roots & Recall special is its egalitarian treatment of our collective heritage. Every place has its unique history, none more historic or valuable than another — humble cottages and grand mansions. That history is captured in the memories of individuals who inhabited those spaces or who retell the stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. It is a diverse collection of images and reminiscences by individuals who share their personal knowledge of events, lifestyles, and social history tied to a specific place. At R&R, the disciplines of history, genealogy, geography, architecture, sociology, and more are blended together to create a holistic understanding of each place that is featured.”

“Thanks for all you folks do in making sure these precious bits of history are preserved for others to enjoy at Roots and Recall.”
Joann Angle of Chester, S.C. wrote, “After being involved in historic preservation for over forty years, I have never met anyone as knowledgeable about historic structures as Wade Fairey and his associates at Roots and Recall. I am fortunate to have had my beloved old home, a Greek Revival cottage built in circa 1856, examined by them. Some of their findings surprised me, others confirmed what I previously thought, but their report enhanced the appreciation I have for my historic home and its builder. The detailed technical data that R&R assembled will be invaluable as I proceed with an application for listing on the National Register.”

“I’m not from South Carolina but did marry a girl from Winnsboro. I really like to see the pictures and read about all the history of this great state. My forefathers came to S.C. in 1685 to the Charleston area, and I just love to learn about the past. Thank all of you at R&R, who are responsible for showing all of us what the past looked like,….”
