1935 – Present
One of the modem architectural types, the Minimal Traditional style was a housing type that developed in the years following World War II as a need for simpler and cheaper housing developed. There was also a strong influence from the modem architects of Europe, who promoted the idea of “less is more” in terms of building and decoration. These homes were small in size and usually had a hipped or gable roof with smaller and simpler projecting gables. Little or no attention was paid to symmetry and there was usually a small entry porch on the front or side elevation. Any detailing occurred around the doors or windows in the form of simple columns or pilasters.
