City Directories and History: ca. 1840 – the Pressley House
This remarkable home appears to have been fashioned in the Gothic Revival Style of architecture with eve brackets, decorative fretwork trim and style, however there have clearly been numerous updates and alterations. Note, as in most antebellum structures from Williamsburg Co., the columns are not standing on the porch, but rather on the ground. This allows the utilization of an extended porch to protect the flooring of the porch, “the Carolina Rain Porch” feature so common to Williamsburg’s early dwellings.
