City Directories and History: No information has been furnished R&R on this historic property. From the image it appears to be a typical farm house in the Carolina “I” House tradition.
“Near Durbin Baptist Church on land bordering the Greenville-Laurens boundary line is a very old and commodious homestead known as the Steppe Cook house. This is one of the oldest homes in the vicinity and one of the finest examples of architecture of the period. Mr. Cook was a large landowner at the time he settled his family here, and the structure today shows the careful planning and the workmanship of the owner and his plantation helpers. The recent modernization has not changed the floor plan.
Mr. William Brown is the present owner of the Steppe Cook house.”
