City Directories and History: The Owings Community depended on the arrival of fertilizer and other farm materials on the railroad as well as for shipping cotton bales, individuals and produce to market from the depot. It was an extremely important gathering spot in Owings history.
Train derailments and wrecks were common in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Note the images below are from the Darby Collection shared with R&R for your enjoyment.
See articles below primary image on the history of the community and more: Shipping Butter, Sketch of Historic Owings and local historian Tuck Brooks.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
