City Directories and History: DER DEUTSCHE FREUNDSCHAFTS – BUND HALL
Constructed 1870; rehabilitated early-1980s Abrahams and Seyle, architects
“This two-story Gothic Revival building stands on a raised basement at the intersection of Meeting and George Streets. Formerly serving a German fraternal organization, it had a number of uses before being taken over in 1984 as the headquarters of the Washington Light Infantry, a local military unit founded in 1807. Lancet arched windows and parapet provide the major decoration for this large stucco building, which is partially enclosed by fencing from the old Radcliffe-King House and is accessed from the street through gates designed by Albert Simons for the Infantry in 1955, reflecting the unit’s service in most wars since the War of 1812.”
