The Yorkville Enquirer of Oct. 5, 1882 reported – “The residence and outbuildings of M.S. Vise at Walnut Grove in Spartanburg Co., were destroyed by fire on Sept. 24.”
City Directories and History: “Moore, ten miles south of Spartanburg on Highway 221, is named for the Moore family, the first of whom was Charles Moore, who settled on lands granted him in 1763 by George III. Walnut Grove Plantation, his ancestral home, and now on the National Register of Historic Places is located nearby on the north bank of North Tyger River.”
