The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Oct. 26, 1887 – “The old Pres. Church was recently torn down and in the cornerstone there was found a glass jar containing a bible, hymn, confession of faith, church paper, a copy of the Spartan dated Sept. 1844, a daguerreotype of Mr. Holms the first pastor. All of these items are in a good state of preservation. They will be deposited in the cornerstone of the new building.”
City Directories and History: The 1925 First Presbyterian church of Spartanburg was designed by Walter W. Cook with the help of Lockwood, Greene, Co., and constructed at the enormous cost of $450,000. Also see PDF: GUIDE TO PRESBYTERIAN NAMES AND PLACES IN SC by J.B. Martin, III – 1989
