City Directories and History: “Mt. Carmel, located on SC-81 at the southern terminus of SC-823 in McCormick County, was chartered on December 24, 1885, and rechartered August 4, 1906. The origin of the name is obviously biblical. The Mt. Carmel A. R. P. Church is located on SC-81, proceeding south out of town.”
