The corner was the perfect location for one of Lauren’s leading banks, the Peoples Loan and Exchange Bank. The second floor of this building as well as many other in downtown Laurens held offices for insurance agents and doctors. It has been reported that Dr. G. Albright had his dental office on the second floor of the bank building for many years.
“The People’s Loan and Exchange Bank was organized on the 4th of the present July and has not yet made a history for itself. The president of the bank is Capt. Albert Dial.” Reprinted from South Carolina in the 1880s: A Gazetteer by J.H. Moore, Sandlapper Publishing Company – 1989
