City Directories and History: Built near Clinton, S.C. this early log structure was recorded by Mr. Bolick in his book, Laurens County Sketchbook. It is reported to have been constructed by a member of the Leake family.
“In 1861 J. Wilson Blakely purchased some property about two miles north of Clinton on what is now South Carolina Highway 308. There was on the property a weather boarded house of two stories. Later it was learned that the plank siding completely covered an original structure of logs. Tradition tells us the log house was built by a Mr. Leake and used as his residence.
The weatherboarding has been removed and today the log cabin stands next to the present residence of the J. Aldine Blakelys whose premises are known to local people as Tanglewood. J. Aldine is a nephew of J. Wilson Blakely.”
