City Directories and History: “Anthony Cook Fuller, country doctor and civil engineer, was born near Mountville in 1825. He was married to Amelia Carolina Watson of the same area, but the couple chose to establish their home to the west of Laurens courthouse in the direction of Princeton.
Their first home was a log cabin built prior to 1856. Later, an imposing country mansion was erected and the log cabin, detached as it was from the new house, served as a kitchen.
Anthony Cook Fuller served in the War Between the States, Company C, 3rd Battalion, Kershaw’s Brigade, Infantry, with the commission of 3rd Lieutenant. (Information furnished by Miss Isabelle Fuller). Doctor Fuller also served his county in the South Carolina Legislature for one term in 1856 and for a second term in 1890. From 1892 to 1896 Fuller represented his county in the State Senate.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Gray are the present owners of the Fuller homestead with the original planting of boxwoods and blooming shrubs. The Grays have given added prestige to the old home with the dignity and warmth of hospitality for which the mansion has always been noted.”
