“State-supported high schools were first established in South Carolina in 1907. Laurens County became one of the first rural counties to have public high schools. Hampton Avenue High School opened in Clinton in 1917. Later the building served as an elementary school and then housed the administrative offices for Clinton School District 56. In 1956, students moved into a new facility, Clinton High School, located on North Adair Street, and in 1957, the school celebrated its first graduation exercises. It continues to serve District 56 students as a high school.” Information from: Laurens Co Postcard Series, LCMA, Arcadia Publishing – 2007
