City Directories and History: “This plain, austere old building still stands defiant of time, storms, war and lack of care. The date of building is not known; but it is recorded to have been the home of Isaac Adair, who lived from 1818 until 1886. Isaac was a descendant of Joseph Adair, who was a brother of James Adair, one of the first settlers in Laurens County and an Indian trader. The Adairs lived around Duncan’s Creek.
The rectangular old building, firmly set on granite pillars, has a shed across the back and a one story porch on the front. There are two entrances on the front of the house and one center chimney.
David T. Copeland married Sallie Adair before the War Between the States, and the old place passed from the Adairs to the Copelands. For over two decades the house was occupied by Isaac Booker, a descendant of one of the Copeland servants. The property is now owned by David Pitts and his nephew, John Pitts, descendants of the Copelands.”
