The Yorkville Enquirer contained an ad on Aug. 28, 1873 for the Laurens Female College. The Pres. is Rev. John R. Riley and the Chairman of the Board is Dr. John W. Simpson. “Students from a distance will be met at Newberry and conveyed here. Board can be had at the College Boarding House, with the President or with private families.”
The Yorkville Enquirer of March 25, 1880 reported – “Rev. Ferdinand Jacobs, Pres. of the Laurensville Female College, has accepted a call to be pastor of the James Island Pres. Church near Charleston.”
