City Directories and History: “Mr. George Widener of Philadelphia purchased five old plantations in 1928 and formed the 6,000-acre Mackay’s Point Plantation. The Neoclassical Revival style residence was built in 1928. It is a two-story frame building with one-story wings off each side. A pedimented portico on the five-bay facade is supported by four round columns. Windows on the first floor are six over nine (6/9) lights, and second floor windows are six over six (6/6) lights with exterior blinds.
Support buildings around the main house include two small guest cottages, a stable, a barn and a manager’s house. Both of the twentieth century owners have been avid horsemen. Micah Jenkins and Mrs. George C. Mackay owned two of the five plantations which now comprise Mackay Point at the outbreak of the Civil War. General Robert E. Lee resided for a time at Mrs. Mackay’s.”
