“A well planned adaptive reuse worth exploring in Darlington County, S.C.”

City Directories and History: The Town of Society Hill is currently (2015) restoring the historic depot. Local preservation company, Segars Construction under the supervision of Bill Segars is restoring the historic building for use as a museum and visitors center for the Town of Society Hill. Constructed in 1866-67, the building is a testament to the prompt recovery of economic opportunities following the Civil War.
The Rock Hill Herald reported on Jan. 7, 1886 – “On Dec. 23, a fire broke out in the gin and general storehouse of Mr. J.M. Waddell at Society Hill Depot. The gin and store with its stock of general merchandise were lost at a cost of $3.000. John Mallow a colored laborer was burned to death and two boys were burned badly.”
