City Directories and History: (305 East Washington Street) This handsome Greek Revival building was constructed in 1936 as the Walterboro Post Office. Architect, Louis A. Simon and supt., Neal A. Melick oversaw the construction of the site.
The Rock Hill Herald reported on Dec. 19, 1896 – “County elections were held on Dec. 15th for approval of new counties. Greenwood was approved by a wide margin, but the plan for an Edisto County was defeated. It would have been created from portions of Orangeburg, Colleton and Barnwell Counties.”
