City Directories and History: 1852 – James Adger and Co. (Cotton merchants – Adger’s Wharf), James, Robert and Jas. Jr.,
Dan Talmage’s and Son operated here in the 1870s and by 1882 other including at the North Adger’s Wharf, the company of L.J. Walker and L.G. Trenholm.
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Jan. 6, 1870 contained an ad – “From William C. Bee and Co., agents for guano, manures, and sulfuric acids manufactured at Charleston. Located at #14 Adgers Wharf.”
The Rock Hill Herald on April 14, 1881 reported – “The Firm of James Adger and Co., of Charleston, which suspended business around a year ago has settled with its creditors and has resumed business. This is good news for friends of old and substantial house.”

Adger’s Wharf was one of the most important in late 19th century Charleston shipping history. Excerpt from the 1888 Sanborn Map, showing the wharf on the Cooper River.Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property.
