City Directories and History: MARX COHEN HOUSE
Constructed circa 1844; renovated 1992-93
“The son of the first Mordecai Cohen, himself an Ashley River planter, built this two-and-a-half-story masonry single house on a Grand Modell lot formerly occupied by a small wooden house. Marx Cohen Jr., a distinguished Confederate officer, was killed by a Union artillery shell during the battle of Bentonville, North Carolina.”
