City Directories and History: STELLING-PELZER HOUSE
Constructed circa 1849-72; altered 1949
“This two-story, hipped-roof brick building in the Colonial Revival style apparently incorporates an earlier wooden structure on the site. The property began as a frame, one-story grocery built by A. E. Stelling on land purchased in 1849 from the Lightwood estate; a second-story dwelling unit had been added by 1872 when it became the property of grocer John F. Meyer. After being occupied by a variety of groceries until 1927, it became a store for A&P. The building was bricked over by 1930 and converted some years later by Mary Branch Chisolm Pelzer as a residence.”
