The Rock Hill Herald reported on Feb. 3, 1881 – “The Camden Cotton Factory has secured at least $50,000. in subscriptions.” (The Camden Cotton Factory was an earlier mill than that of the later DeKalb Mills.)
City Directories and History: The Herald reported on Oct. 24, 1896 – “A number of factory operatives who left Rock Hill for Camden in the spring are now returning to the Standard Mill. The Camden Mill is forced to shut down about half the time because of low water levels.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on May 10, 1904 – “The sale of the DeKalb Cotton Mills of Camden on April 26. It was purchased by Morris Israel of Charleston, S.C. for $155,000. Additional looms and machinery will be added.”
