“A handsome townhouse featuring a 19th century Carolina Rain Porch.”
City Directories and History: 1913 – G.G. Alexander, 1925 – G.G. Alexander, 1941 – Emmie A. McLauchin, 1964 – Joe E. Cahill, also see Elizabeth G. Alexander House
This house was built as a wedding present for Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Alexander, early residents of Camden. It is a nice example of a Camden adaptation of a Carolina farm house. During the War Between the States, Federal troops used well water from the yard while camping in the adjoining square. [Courtesy of the Camden Tour Book] This house was also photographed as part of the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1960 taking notice of its’ detached front columns and is known as Tanglewood.

I Amy,
We would truly love to have some interior architectural images to add to the pages of Roots and Recall., banisters, newel posts, mantels, fretwork along stairs, etc. If you prefer, we can come by the next time we are in Camden and pay a visit, at which time R&R will take the photographs. By the way, your house has always been one of it not, my favorites in Camden – love it!
