City Directories and History: Camden’s Firehouse Number 2, built in 1907 by the City of Camden in the Kirkwood area is a great reminder of the importance firehouses played in every city. H.G. Carrison was Mayor at the time it was constructed and the land was purchased from Abathiah E. Zemp for $300. Henry Savage, Sr. purchase the property in 1921 and converted it into a home. In 1927, Mrs. Paul T. Villepigue, the mother of the subsequent owner, Emma C. Villepigue purchased the property. Billy Silver also owned and renovated the property and in 2000 sold it to Rodney Harkey.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
Thanks!
