Built in 1839 by James R. McKain, a Camden druggist, this house is believed to have been the site of a bachelors’ club known as “Stag Hall.” Extensive additions to the original building were made by later owners. [Courtesy of the Camden Tour Book]
This house was constructed by local druggist James R. McKain about 1839. Local tradition suggests that the building was once used as a bachelors club known as “Stag Hall.” Subsequent owners include Dr. A.T. Moore and the Trantharn family, who owned the house from 1881 to about 1917. Toward the end of the historic period in 1941, the house was owned by Douglas Boykin, secretary-treasurer of First Federal Savings and Loan, and his wife Elizabeth. [Camden Archives and Museum]

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
Thanks!
