This impressive home was constructed in the late 18th century as the home of Col. John Chesnut. By 1830 the front facade had been added facing the street. Originally the home was located at the intersection of Fair and King streets where on May 25, 1791 it was the site used to host a formal reception for visiting President George Washington. It is believed the house was moved to its current location in the summer of 1906. By 1913 Elsie M. Long was living in the home.
