Monument Square – The original home was the family home of Sarah Thornton, wife of John M. Gamewell, inventor of the Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph. It served as a public school from 1903 until 1919. After a fire in the 1930’s, it was extensively remodeled several times. [Courtesy of the Camden Tour Book] Teachers included: Agnes Corbett, Eleanor Godfrey, and E.C. Lawrence. Supt. of the School was Robert M. Kennedy.
