City Directories and History: 1913 – Central Cafe, Charles Gregory, 1925 – Isidore Wolfe Dry Goods, 1941 – Byrd’s Barber Shop, 1964 – McDuffie-Newman Furniture Company
This small, one-story commercial building was constructed between 1900 and 1905. The first documented business to operate there was the Central Cafe, which was run by Charles Gregory. Near the end of the historic period in 1941, the building was occupied by Byrd’s Barber Shop. [Camden Archives and Museum]
For many years the J.C. Penney store was also at this location but the numbers have been changed several times which makes tracking the location interesting.
