City Directories and History: The 1876 Methodist church of St. Matthews, S.C. was constructed in 1916 at a cost of $30,000. Oliver Duke Wheeler and Eugene John Stern served as the architects.
Mr. Harvey C. Owen of St. Matthews was killed in WW I and is buried at West End Cemetery. His wife remained a faithful member of the church for decades. See image of Mr. Own as a child this page.
