City Directories and History: “Henry Talbird built this Beaufort style house in 1786. Raised on a high masonry foundation/basement, the Talbird House is a two-story frame building with a hip roof and exterior rear chimneys. Block modillions and a denticulated cornice encircle the house and the upper verandah. The double verandahs are each supported by four round columns with a simple balustrade. Windows are nine over nine (9/9) lights.
Dr. Lewis Reeve Sams, Jr., owned the house after Henry Talbird. Sams sold the house to Thomas Talbird. The Talbird-Sams house is still owned by descendants of both families because of a marriage between a daughter and a son of the two families.”
