City Directories and History: “The Store” was built in 1903 by Mr. J.D. Peeples (1868-1937) as a general merchandise store. The building is one-and-one-half stories with a front gable roof. There are one-story wings with shed roofs on each side. The double front doors have glass panels in the upper section, and the windows are two over two (2/2) lights. A one-story porch across the facade is supported by four square posts. Like the Planter’s Mercantile building up the street, Peeples Store was built at the corner of a residential lot along Bluffton’s Main Street.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
