City Directories and History: Docheno is a whistle stop on the railroad a short distance from Honea Path. It got its unusual name about 50 years ago according to a story which claims that Uncle Josh Ashley, who owned land adjoining the stop, was asked to give it a name. Several names were suggested, but Uncle Josh didn’t agree with any of them and would always end his sentence with the words, “don’t cha know.” Finally, he said to the railroad representative, “You go ahead and name it, don’t cha know.” “Thank you, Mr. Ashley, I’ll do that,” said the rail-road man and left. A few days later a sign was erected at the stop. It read, “Docheno.”
