City Directories and History: 1905 – St. John’s Methodist Church
The Anderson Historic District has added information on the city’s heritage and this building. Established in 1828, the current building was constructed in 1912 under the direction of architect, Joseph Huntley Casey. The building cost a staggering $78,059.82 to construct.
A.E. Holman, Jr., Memories of Anderson History.…states the original church manse, faced River Street, and was purchased by Michael Lesser (Lesser’s Store), for a residence when he moved to Anderson in ca. 1858. He recalls the house having been heavily remodeled….
