The Anderson Intelligencer reported on Jan. 15, 1891 – “E.W. Taylor is now occupying his new dwelling on Franklin Street near the P.M.I.”
City Directories and History: The Anderson Historic District has added information on the city’s heritage and this building.
The Patrick Military Institute was opened last September by Capt. J.B. Patrick, who for years conducted a military school in Greenville. One hundred and twelve boys are enrolled. The full high school course is exacted and the boys are drilled every day. Capt. Patrick has the able assistance of Prof. W.J. Ligon and John M. Patrick. The cadets are divided into two companies, one commanded by Capt. J.H. Coker of Darlington and the other by Capt. J.D. Lowrance of Columbia. There are three flourishing primary schools in Anderson conducted respectively by Miss L.C. Hubbard, Miss Maggie Evans, and Mrs. J. Scott Murray.
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 6, 1891 – “Lt. T.Q. Donaldson has been assigned professor of Military Science in the Patrick Military Institute of Anderson. He is a graduate of Patrick and of West Point and was a participant in the fight a Wounded Knee.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on July 27, 1892 – “The Patrick Military Academy was established at Greenville in 1870 and has been in Anderson for five years. The principal is Col. John B. Patrick.”
The Yorkville Enquirer of Sept. 13, 1893 took an article from the Anderson Intelligencer which stated, “the faculty of the Patrick Military Institute has been completed by securing the services of Mr. J.F. McElwee, an experienced teacher of Yorkville, as prof. of English.”
