The Herald reported on Jan 26, 1914 – “W.M. Mauldin and S.N. Sowell will open the Rock Hill Steam Bakery soon. It is located next to the plant of S.N. Sowell and Company in the building being erected by James S. White. The bakery will have a capacity of 5,000 loaves a day and bread will be marketed under the Rock Hill brand. An experienced baker is to be employed and the latest continuous ovens and motor driven machinery have been ordered.”
