City Directories and History: The Herald reported on Nov. 18, 1896 – “Ms. Ella Neely of Yorkville has been elected teacher in the school at Newport.”
The Herald reported on Nov. 26, 1902 – “The School at Newport opened about a week ago under the supervision of Mrs. L.A. Barron of Rock Hill.”
The Rock Hill Herald reported on Dec. 3, 1902 – “Ms. Wilmouth Jackson of Newport (York Co., S.C.), has gone to Longmire in Edgefield Co., to assume charge of a school.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on March 4, 1909 – “For sometime there has been a questions of building a new road to Yorkville from Rock Hill which would be three miles shorter than the old road that follows the railroad. Citizens in Ebenezer, Newport and Tirzah are opposed, as it would take business away from them.”
