City Directories and History: In 1983 a group of volunteers prepared and executed the relocation of the McConnell family cabin to Historic Brattonsville. It is one of the site’s fine interpretive areas to discuss living conditions in the early 19th century. The exact date of construction is unknown for this dwelling but judging from the mantel and other embellishments the house was most likely constructed in
either the late 18th or early 19th centuries. This small cabin was typical of the living quarters of thousands who called the region home. Build of sturdy pine logs it represents the quintessential “Scots-Irish” cabin from the late 18th century.
*** Note the attached Walker Map from 1910 shows the location of the N.I. McConnell home, “The McConnell Cabin” on its original location.

Hello,
Thank you for your website and preservation efforts. After a bit of geneology research, I believe that Reuben McConnell (named in your McConnells Cabin article) is my Great Grandfather (x5). I can’t wait to visit myself but my Dad (also named Allan) is planning a visit next month en route to vacation in Myrtle Beach. Are there any arrangements that he needs to make prior to his visit in order to see the historical sites?
Thanks in advance,
Allan
