City Directories and History: One June 25, 1890 the Yorkville Enquirer reported – “The school term at Leslie closed on June 15. The teacher, Ms. Simpson will not return and Ms. Rose Eva Patton, a recent graduate of Winthrop Training School will be teacher when the new term begins on July 14.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 9, 1894 – “The closing exercises of the Lesslie School were held on May 4th. The instructor is Ms. Lillie Ratchford. Music was furnished by L.G. Edwards of violin and Ms. Frankie Walker on organ.”
The Rock Hill Herald reported on Aug 19, 1899 – “School opened in Lesslie several weeks ago with Mr. Wilson Simpson as teacher. ”
The Herald reported on Jan. 14, 1903 – “A flourishing school, under the efficient care of Ms. Beulah Crowder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Crowder, has recently been established in the Lesslie neighborhood.”
The Herald reported on April 22, 1903 – “S.P. Blackwell, Principal of the Lesslie School was in Rock Hill on Sunday.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on May 24, 1904 – “Paul Moore, Principal of Lesslie School, closed the school for the season. There were 55 scholars. Ms. Jennie Lesslie is assistant.”
This building was credited to Julian S. Starr, Rock Hill contractor / architect by family members in c. 2010.
The Herald reported on Sept. 4, 1940 – “The school board held a hearing on the location of the new Lesslie school building. There were two petitions and one asked to change the site because it was to close to the railroad and the Columbia Highway. This petition had 85 signatures. Another petition supports the site with 160 signatures. The board decided to continue with construction of the school at the proposed site.”
The Herald reported on Aug. 15, 1941 – “A new and modern consolidated school is being erected at Lesslie and will be ready for the next school term.”
