CARP, SC: A post office established at McElwee’s Mill on Bullock’s Creek in April 1888; Postmaster was James A. Hogue. He later became a contractor via 1891 and constructed the home of Col. W.B. Allison….
The Yorkville Enquirer contained an ad on Aug. 5, 1880 from J. Neuman McElwee stating, “I have recently made some improvements to my mill known as the Bullock’s Creek Mill and have put in a turbine water wheel and new batting machinery. The mills are under the supervision of Mr. Joseph Wood.”
The Yorkville Enquirer of Oct. 2, 1884 reported – “The postmaster general has ordered the re-establishment of the post office known as Carp, located five miles NW of Yorkville with Mr. J.N. Roberts as Post Master.”
