City Directories and History: Author and historian, retired Winthrop University Professor of History, Louise Pettus gave Roots and Recall permission to digitize and exhibit her more than 1,000 articles on S.C. history in 2018. A majority of these extremely important articles are posted in association with their subject and appear as they did in the newspaper. However, in some cases, there is no clear evidence of where the article should be posted or even which two or three topics of data should be searchable.
Note that articles are both, in some cases, present in their original typed form as well as the edited newspaper articles. In many cases, the original article, when available for review by R&R has been slightly changed to reach a wider audience, not by R&R but the newspaper editorial staff.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
Thanks!
