The Herald reported on Jan. 15, 1896 – “A copy of the first issue of the Rock Hill Messenger has reached our office, this paper promises to be a very creditable undertaking for the colored people of Rock Hill.” It further reported on March 14, 1896 that the newspaper has rented the London Building on Depot Street and they have purchased the outfit (printing press), from the Fort Mill Times.
