City Directories and History: Ann H. White, the mother of four children, and the widow of the late, George P. White, was required by law to report annually on her expenditures for herself, farm, and family. This report is for the year 1861. Many of the annual receipts were bundled and tied with string to be discovered decades later by White family members in the attic. These are the Estate papers for her husband George P. White.
Of particular interest in this document is the income received by Ann H. White in 1861: Railroad dividends, $80., Mr. Thomason for boarding, $49., Mr. Rawlinson for boarding, $24., services from un-named “Boy” via C. Pride, $40., cotton sales, $395.25, services by boy “Charles” on the railroad of $216., Joseph Steele for boarding, $48., boarding for Jno. Ross’s daughter, $30., interest investment income of $210., for a total income of $1,062.25.
