The son of the highly respected Rev. James H. Saye of the Rodman Community in Chester, S.C., at Oakley Hall Plantation. Dr. Saye had been born however in Georgia, while his father preached there, prior to coming to take over the long-term pastorate of the Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church.
Recently a marker was placed at the bridge over Turkey Creek on the Shannon Road in memory of the late Dr. Joseph H. Saye. Dr. Saye once served three terms in the South Carolina Legislature. He was President of First National Bank (of Sharon) for many years. He was a true physician to the people of this community for many years. Dr. Saye as Legislator, was a man who helped in the road building program for Western York County. [Sept. 7, 1972 – Yorkville Enquirer]
The Herald reported of Feb. 19, 1896 – “Mrs. Saye, Sr., of Fishing Creek, was in town last Friday. She is now visiting her son, Dr. Saye of Sharon. She is wonderfully well preserved and is thinking seriously of going to Texas with Dr. Joe Saye and family.”
