The Herald reported on Jan. 28, 1942 – “The Goode Shoppe was opened today by Banks Good in the former Gladden Store building oppose WTS. It will handle a complete line of grocers, sandwiches, and confections. Mrs. H.E. Ruff will be the hostess. The store was run for many years by W.H. Gladden.”
All of the homes in the 700 block of College Avenue were demolished to make room for development and parking lots by Winthrop University. Many of the older homes on the street were used as homes by college staff members.
