This home was built for Rev. Hezekiah Webb Bays and his wife Frances Virginia Herbert Bays, after his death in 1921 my grandparents inherited it (Mary Herbert Bays and Percival Clarke Blackman). At her death in 1952 my father inherited it

The Herald reported on Aug. 25, 1900 – “The Rev. Dr. Bays has returned from the Chesterfield Courthouse where he dedicated a church.”
The Herald reported on June 27, 1906 – “That Dr. H.W. Bays is having a nice dwelling erected on Aiken Ave., in Oakland. Other dwelling are to be erected on this street in the near future.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on Feb. 16, 1914 – “Rev. and Mrs. Alexander Martin will shortly move into the house of Dr. W.H. Bays on Aiken Ave., which has been secured as a manse of the Oakland Ave., Pres. Church.”
The paper also contained an ad on July 14, 1925 – “for the sale of the Dr. Bays home with John R. Williams real estate.”

I have a copy of a picture of 608 Aiken Avenue before the two end porches were enclosed – I don’t see a way to upload it to this site – if you are interested email me and I will send it to you. My cousin had the original.
