On Oct. 18, 1902, the Herald reported on an earlier home of J. Crawford Witherspoon (Charlotte Ave., reported by the 1908 RH City Directory as at Charlotte Ave., near Aiken) – “S.A. Clark has the contract to erect a six room cottage in Oakland, near the residence of W.B. Wilson, for J.C. Witherspoon.”
The Herald reported on April 15, 1903 – “Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Witherspoon are now occupying their new residence in Oakland”
The Herald reported on Dec. 12, 1921 – “Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Wilson have bought the residence on College Ave., now occupied by S.R. Smoak and will move there in January.”
The Herald reported on Oct. 2, 1925 – “That J.C. Witherspoon is having a home built on the corner of College and Aiken Avenue.”
